Door hardware is one of the most complicated home products specify that is very important to the home decoration.A handle of a door or a drawer should have sufficient strength to support and help in transmitting the force.

The latest in door handle design has adapted all the combined functions of buzzers, cameras, intercoms, keypads, motion detectors and RFID readers and converted it into an integrated infrastructure to permit or deny access. So when on the search for new door hardware, be aware of these 5 simple tips to help in your selection.

Safety First: When it comes to the security of the home, locksets are probably the most crucial part of any entryway. Besides the looks must be special and beautiful, the locks must be safe enough. If a lock isn’t reliable, then it’s worthless. If you have glass porch doors, then you may want to go for a double cylinder, which requires a key for both the inside and out.

The Looks:Make sure to match all your door hardware throughout the house.A very popular trend, for both the exterior and interior, is to get retro.Nostalgic products, such as glass door knobs or brass handles, are timeless and never go out of style. And since the entryway is the first thing people see, spending time and money on beautiful door decor will ensure that guests get an appropriate first impression.

The Latch:Many times interior doors will use simple handle-locks.But when it comes to door knobs, the crucial thing to keep in mind is alignment. In other words, does the door open and close easily. Occasionally check to make sure your latches are catching properly. Remember, a door is only as effective as its upkeep.

Attachments: It’s not just about latches and hinges. Door hardware can take on all kinds of components. For added protection to your walls, invest in some kick plates and spring door stoppers. To brighten up the entrance, buy an address plate or door knocker. In the bathroom, install a hanger or two for those wet towels.

Maintenance: If a door is to remain functional, then you have to make sure all the inner (and outer) workings are running smoothly. Never leave a lock broken . Make sure you doors open and close smoothly.

The five tips of door hardware may be helpful for you to decor your home doors.

Cabinet door hinges are rather underappreciated but very essential parts of your cabinetry. While most people think a set of cabinet door hinges should last forever, life and usage can cause them to wear out long before their time.

Don’t get me wrong, cabinet door hinges can be very sturdy pieces of hardware. Often times, the cabinet door fails long before the cabinet hinges give up their ability to work.

If you have children, you have likely caught them, at least once, trying to ride a cabinet door. They grab on to the top of the door, pick their feet up and ride the door closed. While this is great fun for them, it is causing great strain on your cabinets and cabinet hinges.

In many cases, the cabinet will put up with a few of these rides, but over time, and as your child grows, the abuse will become more evident. You may notice your door is sagging a little more than it used to be and won’t stay closed or open on its own anymore. If they have really broken it, you may well notice a crack or break along the hinge area of the door. If the door was broken completely loose, you may see the cabinet door hinges have also bent in the process.

So, what do you do about these abused pieces? Start by looking at the cabinet door hinges. You need to know just what has suffered damage and how bad the damage is. Look at the holes where the cabinet door hinges attach to the door and the cabinet frame. Are they loose? It is possible a little tightening of the cabined door hinge screws will be enough to fix things if the screws have just come loose.

Often times it’s a bigger problem. The screw has not twisted loose, but the weight has actually made the screw rip loose, making a bigger hole in the wood. Fixing this will involve filling the wood and re-drilling the holes or getting a new cabinet door.

Once you have looked at the screw holes, look at the cabinet door hinges. Are they as flat and flush with the wood as they used to be? Even though they are made of metal, metal can bend with enough weight and pressure put on it. Depending on the extent of the bend, you may be able to hammer it out, re-flatten and reinstall the cabinet door hinges. If the bend is bad enough that it’s started to weaken the metal, you may want to purchase new cabinet door hinges to make sure they’ll be strong enough to handle the jobs you need done.

Finally, make sure to look at the wood of the doors and frames around the cabinet door hinges. These areas may be showing signs of wear. If the wood is cracked or weakened, it may be necessary to replace the cabinet door, or at least try to mend the wood around the cabinet door hinges so they will work properly.

Sometimes little things are important, like door hinges. Door hinges connect doors to walls or door frames. To open a door on hinges, one pushes the side far from the hinges and the door rotates around the side with hinges.

In some cases, you’ll find your door sticks. A door that sticks may be due to several problems. Hot, humid summer days may swell the wood; you can minimize this seasonal headache by making sure all edges and door faces are sealed with varnish or paint. Loose or bound hinges can also cause a door to stick.

Below are ways from a creative homeowner to repair them so that the door operates smoothly.

Tightening a Loose Hinge

When a hinge is loose, the door may lean closer to the jamb at the other side, which may cause the door to stick.

First, try simply tightening the screws on the loose hinge. This pulls the door edge closer to the frame on the hinge side. That widens the gap on the handle side, and your binding problem should disappear.

If the screws you try to tighten spin in their holes instead of digging in, try installing longer screws with thicker shanks. The idea is to use screws that bite into fresh wood and provide more holding power, with an inch or so more of thread. This is a good idea for the top hinge of a heavy door and will often solve your problem, even if the hinge is already tight. The longer screw actually draws the jamb closer to the studs, producing extra clearance on the handle side of the door.

A more time-consuming repair is to fix the hole to increase a screw’s holding capacity. There are several DIY fixes, including using wood filler, or driving in a short length of dowel. You can even dip slivers of wood or toothpicks in glue, and drive them into the hole in a tight pack. When the glue dries, the screw threads will have something to bite into.

Adjusting Bound Hinges

When door hinges close but the door doesn’t, even though the door is not rubbing against the frame, the hinges are binding. This problem can emerge when hinges sit too deeply or not deeply enough in their mortises. The face of the hinge leaves should be flush with the surface of the door and jamb. Check to see if the hinge is properly aligned and that the screws are tight and don’t protrude above the face of the hinge. If that does not work, remove the hinge. Deepen the mortise or add a cardboard shim as needed.
